1960 Shell Oil Isoprene Rubber Promotional Rubber Disk
This Extremely Rare 2 3/4" in diameter and 5/8" thick Rubber Disk is One Of The Most Unique Oil & Gas Promotional Items that I have ever seen. Touting their, then, newly developed Isoprene Rubber and boasting it to be the "First Commercial Polyisoprene" in raised letters, it is in nice overall shape with the only noticeable flaw (other than it could use a good cleaning) being that it has a few light scratches in the inner raised ring (see photo)
You don't have to be a chemist to know that isoprene rubber is a synthetic rubber (which is to say; a compound of a high molecular weight derived either by the addition of many smaller molecules or by the condensation of many smaller molecules with the elimination of water, alcohol, or the like) produced using complex catalysts of stereospecific polymerization of highly volatile liquid hydrocarbons obtained in the processing of petroleum or coal tar………..well, DOYEEEEE!!!
Anyway, this is a cool thingy with the Shell Icon embossed in the middle of it. If you collect Gas & Oil items, Shell promotional pieces or are a nut for polyisoprenes then this is the rubber disk for you
